Spiritual Milk“I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.” 1 Corinthians 3:2
“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,” 1 Peter 2:2

We live in an entitlement culture in America. I am sure that those who do not believe in God’s curse upon Adam in the book of Genesis are proponents of the entitlement mentality.

“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3:19

Our children grow up in age where they perceive things that are privileges as rights. Cell phones are not a right! Cars are not a right! Parental guidance is not a convenient thought it is an ordinance from God! These are just a few examples that have develop this entitlement attitude among this generation of Americans.

Sadly, this mentality has founds its way into the mindset of the church. We develop strategies in a valiant attempt to reach the next generation, but in the course of developing these strategies we have neglected adhering to the rigid boundaries of our faith. To compromise the integrity of God’s direction on His church for the sake a few milk-sucking complainers is ridiculous. Those who want special treatment and/or special programs to meet their personal perception/preference of spiritual growth do not understand the basic principle of being a Christian — “servanthood.”

It doesn’t matter whether you are just turning into the age of accountability or you are knocking at death’s door at 119 years old, as a Christian you are called to be a servant. Not to be serve, but to serve others! There is no place for an entitlement attitude in a Christian. For we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, there is no amount of good work that will gain you entrance to God’s Kingdom, and no great amount of sin will keep you from entering. Faith in Christ grants you the only entitlement you will ever need.
